Painting is my new favorite form of artistic expression. I discovered this in 2012 when I gave up waiting years for my artist husband to paint me a Marin landscape. Since he’d been too busy, I decided to give it a try (apparently he was impressed - now he's my biggest fan!) Using whatever paints and supplies I could find at home, I took some vacation time from work and jumped in. I was immediately surprised to feel a sense of joy and gratification from my first painting experience.
I’m most comfortable learning a new art form through study and training. I’ve studied music all my life and received a bachelor’s degree in piano performance. My other creative abilities have followed the same pattern of long-term practice and study. Not so with painting. When I began to paint, I realized that my other creative pursuits in life had prepared me to use a paint brush, mix colors, see perspectives, understand contrast, and put together a beautiful composition. I was immediately hooked! I now believe it’s possible for any one of us to discover a new talent that life experience has prepared us to engage in successfully.
I’m drawn to painting landscapes that reflect a sense of peace and beauty. Marin County, California, is one of the best places to find this type of imagery. I most enjoy creating the kind of image that makes the viewer feel present with the landscape. I hope my paintings allow the viewer to experience a real sense of the place.
